The Delhi Waqf Board will soon set up its university in the city.
The Board has identified 30 acres of Waqf land in Indraprastha near the Millennium Park along Ring Road.
The Waqf committee has also approached the Delhi Development Authority to change the land use from ‘Green’ to ‘Institutional’ so that the university can be set up.
While the Waqf Board is yet to work out the financial modalities of the project, Delhi Waqf Board chairman Amanatullah Khan said the university will be named after freedom fighter, Ashfaqulla Khan.
“The Delhi government has promised us support and once the DDA changes the land use, we will start the construction,” said Mr Khan said.
The proposal for the University was cleared in the Waqf board meeting on Friday.
Since the Waqf properties and land, as per the rules, can only be used for the welfare of the people belonging to the Muslim community, the University will have fix quota and reserve seats for the students of Muslim community.
The Board will be seeking financial assistance from the government but to boost its revenue, it will have to rely on the rent it collects from various Waqf properties spread across the city.
