Wanted man arrested

July 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - New Delhi:

A proclaimed offender, who was wanted in 17 cases of illicit sale of liquor in the city, was arrested on Sunday — 10 years after he went absconding.

To evade arrest, offender Lakhan Bachhar, who was likely to be convicted in most of the cases, got rumours spread about his death, said Rishi Pal, DCP (East), on Monday.

Bachhar also changed his hideouts several times before settling in Baprola, near Najafgarh. He was arrested after the police received a tip-off about his location.

To be able to rent a place in Baprola, Bachhar had discarded his original voter ID card and procured a new one on the same name, but with a West Bengal address.
