A video of a Delhi youth torturing a street dog has emerged on social media following which a social activist has approached the Delhi Police demanding action.
The video was posted on Thursday from the Facebook account of Dar Ji (Dj), alias Vatssam Kumar, and apparently shows him gaining the animal’s trust before physically abusing it.
The Facebook profile was found taken down on Sunday. But social activist and lawyer Shehzad Poonawalla had already captured the screenshots of the profile and downloaded the video after it was brought to his notice by Monicka Vadera, a cousin of Robert Vadra.
On Sunday, Mr. Poonawalla shot off a mail to Commissioner of Police B. S. Bassi demanding registration of an FIR. “Since the video does not indicate the place where the incident occurred, I did not want to approach the local police and risk getting caught in the technicalities of the jurisdiction where the FIR should be filed,” Mr. Poonawalla told The Hindu .
Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat, however, said being Sunday, he was not aware of any such complaint received by the office of the Commissioner of Police. “But we will definitely take necessary action on such complaints,” Mr. Bhagat said.
Mr. Poonawalla is hoping social media users would help identify the suspect or the police track him down through available details. The Facebook profile shows the youth located in Delhi and one of his pictures shows him outside a south Delhi bar.
In the video, shot at night, the youth is seen first petting the white street dog before suddenly grabbing it by its hind leg.
He then rotates the screaming creature in the air six times before flinging it away to crash land on a nearby parked car.
The canine subsequently falls on the ground and is approached by a black street dog.
The video ends with the dog limping away even as two or more persons are heard cheering in the background.
For now, he has posted several pictures of the suspect on website policysamvad.com with a plea to shame and help identify him.
