A mayoral delegation from the US met the south Delhi Mayor Kamaljeet Sehrawat on Monday. The delegation is here study the functioning of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) and the policies of garbage management in the city.
The delegation included Mayors Tom Tait from California; and Greg Fischer from Kentucky, along with senior fellow at council on foreign relations Farah Pandith, and senior executive officers of the municipal corporations.
“The SDMC emerged as a section of the unified civic body in 2002, and since then we have set an example for the city in the fields of garbage management, sanitation and providing other civic amenities for the people of its area,” said Ms. Sehrawat while addressing the delegation.
Use of technology
The Mayor also boasted about the use of technology in the management of waste in the SDMC area.
She said that the process of garbage management has been simplified by the civic agency with the use of a mechanised system of collection, transportation and disposal of waste. “The SDMC has also proved that by effectively managing our finances we have been able to achieve a sound financial situation,” she added.
The street lighting project initiated by the SDMC was also discussed at the meeting.
