Two persons, including a woman, were killed and three injured when a building collapsed in Kirti Nagar here on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident took place around 12-45 p.m. Construction activity was going on in the building located in the Furniture Market of Kirti Nagar at the time of collapse. Most of those present in the building were daily labourers. There was, however, no confirmation on the total number of people present.
While the identity of the deceased persons could not be ascertained according to the police, those injured have been identified as Sanjiv, Bhola and Bittu – all aged between 18 to 20 years. All three of them are from Patna and live in Raghubir Nagar area of Delhi.
The injured were taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in West Delhi where they were provided treatment.
The police said poor construction material could be the reason behind the collapse.
“We were sitting on the other side of the road when all of a sudden we saw the building collapsing and we rushed near to check what was going on,” said an eyewitness.
Honey Singh, who runs a furniture shop in the same area, said construction activity has been going on in the building since the past one month and nobody was residing in it.
The owner of the building has been identified as one Sukhwinder Singh.
