Two auto-lifters were nabbed and 14 two-wheelers recovered by the north-west district police on Sunday, the police said on Tuesday. They claimed to have solved 18 cases with these arrests.

Police picket

Karan alias Mithu Luhera (20) and his 17-year-old associate were stopped at a police picket in Burari around 11.15 p.m. on Sunday. They were apprehended after they failed to produce the motorcycle’s registration papers.

“The suspects were interrogated. They eventually revealed that the bike was stolen from Mukherji Nagar on September 27,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere, adding that they were planning to sell it to one Amit alias Tulli in Ghaziabad.

Other cases

The accused also told the police about their involvement in auto thefts in other parts of Delhi, leading to the recovery of 14 two-wheelers.

“Karan belongs to a poor family and fell into bad company. He became a drug addict and started stealing vehicles to finance his habit,” said Mr. Dumbere.
