: The members of All-Delhi Tempo and Mini-Truck Owners’ Union staged a protest against green tax at Jantar Mantar on Sunday. Two members of the union will remain on a hunger strike till their demands are met.

The unions are protesting as green tax is levied on the trucks and tempos registered with Delhi every time they enter the city.

“Green tax is imposed on vehicles that belong to other states and which enter Delhi,” said Suresh Mridul of the All-India Tempo Union.

The protesters said that they had to pay Rs. 700 as tax if their vehicles were empty and Rs. 1400 for vehicles carrying goods.

Shouting anti-government slogans and holding placards with messages such ‘ Apne ghar aane par green tax kyun ’, the protesters demanded that the ban on 10-year-old diesel tempos be removed. “Our livelihood is being affected. If our demands aren’t met, we will hold a protest march from Rajghat to Vidhan Sabha on May 4,” said Mr Gaur.
