A 19-year-old man and his accomplice have been arrested by the north-east district police for allegedly robbing and killing his grandmother’s friend to arrange money for a narcotic he was addicted to.

The body of the 62-year-old woman was found in her house by her 10-year-old adopted son on August 20, the police said. The boy told the police that when he reached his house, the main gate was closed from inside.

House ransacked

After he knocked continuously, a man opened the door and fled, the police said. When the boy went upstairs, he found his mother injured and the house ransacked.

He informed his mother’s sister and her husband, and they took the woman to GTB Hospital, where she was declared dead.

The accused was later identified as Nitesh Kumar and arrested. Kumar allegedly knew the victim from his days as a Shiv Vihar resident.

The police said he was addicted to ganja . To arrange money to buy the drug, he killed her by hitting her with a grinding stone, they added. His accomplice Farooque was also arrested.
