The Principal of a government school has been apprehended along with a physical training instructor of another school, a Delhi Police constable and another accomplice, for allegedly entering into a conspiracy to leak the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examination papers at Rohini in Outer Delhi on Sunday.
The accused were arrested before they could solve the papers, whose images were taken using a mobile phone.
A team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police K.P.S. Malhotra of Bawana sub-division received a tip-off that some persons were planning to leak the SSC examination papers for financial gains.
Investigations led them to a government senior secondary school in the Avantika area of Sector 1 in Rohini, where they laid a trap.
Well before the examination was to commence, a young man — later identified as Manoj (31), a resident of Kanjhawla — gained entry into the school premises along with another person.
The suspects took photographs of the question papers and were on their way when they were arrested by a police team comprising Inspector Vijay Rastogi and others.
The accused were supposed to go to a place where a team was waiting to solve the papers and supply the solutions to candidates who were to pay the gang for their “services”.
One of the accused was identified as Harish, a 24-year-old constable with the IIIrd Battalion of the Delhi Armed Police. His mobile phone containing the images was also seized.
During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that Narender Dahiya (42), a physical training instructor in the school where the examination was being conducted, had allegedly allowed them access to the papers. Subsequently, the police picked up Narender for questioning.
Manoj purportedly disclosed that the papers were to be taken to U-Block of Mangolpuri where a team comprising Principal Krishan Kumar (57) would have solved them.
“The Principal has also been apprehended,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer Delhi) B.S. Jaiswal.
While efforts are underway to identify other gang members, for which raids are being mounted in Haryana, preliminary investigations suggest that about Rs.2 lakh per candidate was being charged for the solutions. The police are also determining the identities of candidates who were in touch with the gang.
