Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said his Government was looking East in a bid to counter water woes characteristically peculiar to metros such as the Capital.
He said steps were afoot to replicate Singapore’s water re-use model, which consists of recycling waste water for re-use post treatment and several stages of filtration for replication in Delhi.
“Singapore does not have any water of its own. Almost 95 percent of water comes from outside,” Mr. Kejriwal said while interacting with reporters after attending the Padma awards presentation ceremony held here.
“We have been studying how it is done. We plan to begin with 10 to 15 pilot projects on the same lines in Delhi in a month or so,” he added. Government teams had been dispatched to Singapore to study the model.
The procedure includes filtering of used water in such a way that water used in toilets goes to toilets and similarly waste water from kitchen is used in the kitchens again.
The water quality, after it is filtered, is as good as of mineral water, Mr. Kejriwal said adding that if it could work in Delhi, “which I think it would”, there would be no water shortage in the city.
