SAC must have an independent investigating agency: CPI(M)

April 03, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - JAMMU:

The CPI(M) on Saturday batted for providing a full-fledged and independent investigating agency to the State Accountability Commission (SAC) to help it in investigations without any hindrance.

“The Commission should be provided a full-fledged and independent investigating agency of its own so that it could conduct investigations and inquiries with out any hitch or hindrance,” CPI(M) senior leader and MLA M. Y. Tarigami said.

In a letter to SAC chairperson Justice (retd) B. A. Khan, Mr. Tarigami concurred with the chairman that the original Act of 2002 which created the Commission was weakened and rendered more or less ineffective by the unwanted amendments in 2011.

He appreciated the efforts of SAC chairman in strengthening the institution, the creation of which was aimed at making all sections of the establishment responsive and answerable to the public. - PTI
