A group of juveniles who escaped from an observation home at Kingsway Camp in North Delhi in October ganged up with a jeweller to kill a woman in Mayur Vihar area of East Delhi. Five of them along with three others had on November 7 allegedly killed the wife of a silver ornaments jeweller -- Ajay Gupta and robbed his house.
Delhi Police’s Crime Branch arrested two of the accused juvenile along with three others on Sunday. Mahesh Gupta (24), Ajay Rai (35), Narsing Kumar Verma (35) and two juveniles were arrested following an investigation in the case for 10 days. The team is searching for three more juveniles, who are also allegedly involved in the case.
The accused allegedly chose 2-30 p.m. as the time to strike, because Ajay Gupta is usually not present at his residence at this hour. Only his wife, Madhubala and two children, aged 15 and 10 years are present at home at this time.
“One of the juveniles posed as a courier boy and managed to get the gate opened. All five of them led by Mahesh forcibly entered the house and overpowered Madhubala. They took both the children as hostages in another room and started ransacking the house. Madhubala resisted and they strangulated her, looted the jewellery and cash and escaped,” said Additional Commissioner of Police Ravindra Yadav.
On Sunday, the team working on the case received a tipoff and arrested Mahesh, who works as a cable operator in East Ashok Nagar. “He disclosed that five juveniles are involved in the murder and dacoity,” said Mr. Yadav. Later, two of them were apprehended from different places.
The five juveniles who had escaped from the observation home, were allegedly roped into the crime. “Mahesh who is the mastermind in the case is close to these juveniles. He became their ‘Godfather’ and provided them with a rented accommodation,” said Mr. Yadav.
Narsing Kumar Verma, who is a jeweller and came into contact with the juveniles through Mahesh, allegedly lured them to commit the crime to earn quick money, he added.
