Rider crushed under military truck

Victim’s friend who was riding bike suffers minor injuries; Armyman held

An Armyman has been arrested for allegedly crushing a 37-year-old pillion rider to death under the military truck he was driving in Chanakyapuri on Wednesday morning. The victim’s friend who was riding the motorcycle was also injured.

Accused booked

Accused 39-year-old I. Shikato Sema is posted with the Assam regiment, and has been booked for causing death by negligence and rash and negligent driving.

The victims have been identified as bike rider Mohammad Arif and pillion rider Naushad Aminuddin.

PCR call

A senior police officer said the Police Control Room received a call regarding an accident near Chanakyapuri. The police team arrived at the spot to find a body lying near the tyre of the truck.

“Eyewitnesses said the truck rammed the bike near Assam Bhawan. While Mr. Arif was thrown a few metres away, Mr. Aminuddin fell under the truck and was crushed to death,” said a senior police officer.

A crime and forensics team also visited the spot. The police said the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem. Mr. Arif, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Another accident

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) B.K. Singh said the police are checking CCTV footage to establish the sequence of events.

In another fatal accident, a 28-year-old man was crushed to death by a DTC bus inside a bus depot in east Delhi’s Kalyanpuri in the early hours of Wednesday.

The accused driver was hired on contract basis and had been working there for the past two weeks. The police said the accused was reversing the bus when Vijay got crushed. The victim was standing with his back towards the bus at the time of the incident.
