The Distance Education Council has granted recognition to the Bachelor of Arts degree of the School of Open Learning run by Delhi University.

Counsel for the School of Open Learning informed about this to the Delhi High Court recently during hearing of a petition by a student who has graduated from there.

The student, Deepak Kumar, approached the Court when the Staff Selection Commission had put an embargo on his recruitment as a Tax Assistant even after he had cleared the recruitment test and interview.

The School had put the embargo on his recruitment asking him to get his certificate of the degree course from the Council.

Following the issue of notices by the Court, to the University, the Council and the School on the petition, the three respondents held deliberations among them following which the Council agreed to recognise the degree course run by the School.

The Council gave the recognition as per the notification issued by the Union Human Resources Development Ministry about the grant of recognition to the B.A. degree course run through distance education.

The Council gave a post facto recognition to the degree course of the School run by the university from the academic year 1995 to 2009.

Following the submission made by the Council, the High Court on Friday disposed of the petition and directed the Staff Selection Commission to consider the case of the petitioner within eight weeks.
