The Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday alleged that the BJP leaders are “equally involved” in drug trade in Punjab and reiterated its demand for a court-monitored CBI probe in the matter.
Mr Bajwa referred to the recent arrests of BJP leaders in Ferozepur for their alleged involvement in drug trade.
“The BJP has suddenly stopped raking up the drug smuggling issue as its leaders are equally involved in this despicable conspiracy against the Punjabis. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah should speak up as Punjab is a border state and it is too well known that drug money all over the world is siphoned off into terrorist activities too,” he said here.
“Punjab has already suffered for more than a decade. It is for this reason that the Congress has been demanding court monitored CBI probe,” he added.
He alleged that Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal have been in denial mode.
The PPCC chief questioned the “so-called morality” being preached by Mr Modi, Mr Shah and other BJP and the RSS leaders, while at the ground level, the party was no different with its leaders equally ‘involved’ in such activities. - PTI
