Phase out old diesel trucks: NGT to civic body

July 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:57 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Disposing of a petition by the North Delhi Municipal Corporation seeking permission to purchase new diesel trucks, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) said here on Thursday, that the Corporation must phase out its old diesel trucks before planning to buy new ones.

A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar said: “First phase out nine old diesel trucks, then buy the new ones.”

Permission

The NDMC had sought the Tribunal’s permission to buy 10 new diesel trucks, worth Rs. 1.32crore, while asserting that it faced problems with garbage collection and transportation using older trucks. The NGT had in December stopped registration of new diesel heavy vehicles in the Capital.
