People remember tainted MLA for good work in Sultanpur Majra

Praise Sandeep Kumar for building roads, marriage halls

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from North Delhi’s Sultanpur Majra, Sandeep Kumar, who was sacked as Minister following allegations of sexual assault against him, is remembered by the members of ward 47 in his constituency for the work he had done in the village.

The former Women and Child Welfare Minister in Delhi cabinet has been credited for having constructed a road which the residents had been demanding for years.

“After he came to power, he constructed the road which no politician could in the last 10 years. Our commute has become easier and now there’s no traffic,” said Nahar Singh (28).

Another resident, 60-year-old Jayprakash, said the MLA had recently inaugurated two community centres built for the purpose of marriages in the area.

“For people who can’t afford banquets, he has built marriage halls. All this while he has been facing several charges,” Mr. Singh said, adding that residents of the ward are thankful to Mr. Kumar for his “good work”.

However, the residents also said that it’s highly unlikely they’ll vote for the AAP in the municipal polls this time because they can’t trust the party any more.

‘Won’t vote for AAP’

“We haven’t seen any party candidate coming to our ward and asking us what we need. Therefore, this time I will vote for the party that’s working on the national front or I might just exercise NOTA (None Of The Above),” said Ashish Kaushik (26), a resident.

In other three wards of the constituency, however, people alleged that Mr. Kumar hasn’t shown his face. “After he won, we don’t know if at all he worked,” said 60-year-old Ved Pal, a retired government employee who’s a resident of Ward number 48, Sultanpuri Majra.
