Owaisi denied permission to enter Azamgarh

April 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - Azamgarh:

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has been denied permission to hold any events in Azamgarh district in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday, due to the current state of communal tension in the nearing Mubarakpur city.

"The district administration is scared. I was in two districts on Saturday and there were absolutely no issues. But Mulayam Singh is the MP from Azamgarh, so they are scared and there is pressure on the administration,” Mr. Owaisi said.

A violent scuffle broke out at a snack stall on Friday in Mubarkpur after food was allegedly served on papers which quoted the Quran. Following the scuffle, the city district administration took the decision to not let Mr. Owaisi enter the area. In a bid to kickstart preparations for the 2017 Assembly elections, Mr. Owaisi on Saturday began his two-day tour to five districts in the State, where he will visits districts like Balrampur, Sidharth Nagar, Sant Kabir Nagar and Jaunpur. However, party leaders have that said Mr. Owaisi would hold ‘indoor’ meetings with workers and will not address any public meetings.

The Akhilesh Yadav government had consistently denied permission all through last year to Mr. Owaisi who had submitted applications on several occasions. - ANI
