Sweltering heat continued across North India with Delhi witnessing a hot and sunny day but a duststorm in the evening brought the mercury down marginally, bringing some relief to the residents.
The maximum temperature was recorded at 39.5 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season’s average while the minimum temperature settled at 24.8 degrees.
In Haryana, Hisar recorded a high of 40 degrees, while Ambala was at 38.1 degrees. Chandigarh, which received a drizzle during the day, recorded a high of 37.5 degrees.
In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 35.3 degrees, while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded a maximum temperatures of 38 degrees.
A MeT official said that a western disturbance was active over north Pakistan and neighbourhood while there was also an upper air cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan adjoining north-west Rajasthan and Punjab.
Sweltering heat conditions continued to prevail in Uttar Pradesh with weather remaining dry.
According to the Met office heat wave prevailed at isolated places over the State and there was no let up in the day temperatures over all divisions.
Highest maximum temperature in the State was 44 degrees, recorded at Allahabad.
