No power cuts in Odisha this summer

April 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - BERHAMPUR:

This summer power consumers of Odisha may not face load shedding during peak hours.

Speaking to newsmen during his visit to Berhampur to review performance of power distribution company Southco, State Energy Department principal secretary Suresh Mohapatra said this year water level in reservoirs of different hydroelectricity projects is still good. He hoped that because of it there would be no major power shortage in the State.

He added that even if there is some shortage, it would not be too great. So, if needed there would be power cut for one or two hours only during the day time rather than during evening or night.

Speaking on the proposed underground power supply project for Berhampur, Chatrapur and Gopalpur, Mr Mohapatra said this Rs.1,000-crore project awaited Central approval for funding by an international agency. It may be noted that the State government on its own has already taken up similar underground electrification projects in Puri, Bhubaneswar, Baripada and Sambalpur.
