About 10,000 people are expected to perform yoga in Connaught Place on Wednesday to mark International Day of Yoga, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) said on Monday.

NDMC chairperson Naresh Kumar said that the civic body had organised four events to mark the day, with yoga demonstrations to take place at Connaught Place, Lodi Garden, Nehru Park, Talkatora Garden and Children’s Park at India Gate.

Off limits

In the run-up to the event, the inner circle and middle lanes of Connaught Place will be closed to traffic from Monday night till 11.30 a.m. on Wednesday.

Like last year, Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu will participate in the event at Connaught Place.

Mr. Naidu will be joined by Delhi Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, said Mr. Kumar.

Among the participants would be volunteers of various yoga, religious and social organisations, as well as personnel of Central paramilitary forces and Delhi Police.
