An eight-year-old boy who had gone missing from North Delhi over two years ago has been reunited with his family, the police said on Friday.
Narveer had got lost in a market behind Azadpur metro station in September 2012. The then six-year-old somehow landed in Bulandshahar in Uttar Pradesh, where he was sent to a children’s home. He told the warden that his parents lived in Delhi, but could not remember the address. He was eventually shifted to a home in Mansarovar Park in March last year.
A police team recently visited the home as part of its special drive, called ‘Operation Milaap’, which aims to reunite missing children with their families. Photographs of all the children living in this home and others in the North-East district were collected and matched against those of the missing children.
“Narveer’s photo matched with that of a child reported missing from Model Town. A mobile phone number was mentioned in the FIR, but it was found to be out of service,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Veenu Bansal.
A visit to the Model Town police station revealed his parents were permanent residents of Keharpur Khurd village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Dataganj police station in Badaun. The Dataganj Station House Officer was contacted, but it was found that no such village existed under its jurisdiction. “We checked again and found out that a Deharpur Khurd village fell under the jurisdiction of the police station.”
He was contacted again and asked to check the possibility of this being the village the police were looking for. Narveer’s father Pancham was found living in the village.
The boy had landed in Bulandshahar and was later shifted to Delhi, while his family had moved to Badaun and changed the mobile number
