A 45-year-old man allegedly committed suicide after allegedly killing his 42-year-old wife on Tuesday in outer Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar. The man came to the police station and told the officers that he has consumed poison.

Sanjay Sharma, an auto-rickshaw driver, allegedly beat up his wife Babli and strangulated her following a quarrel. Guilt-ridden, he consumed poison and went to Baba Haridas Nagar police station, the police said.

“He was lying outside and managed to tell the officers that he had consumed poison. The police rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed,” said a senior police officer.

Pool of blood

Meanwhile, the police received a call from the auto-rickshaw driver’s neighbours in Agrasen Park, who suspected something was amiss. When the police reached the spot, they broke open door and found the woman lying in a pool of blood. There were injury marks on the body. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was declared brought dead. The police said the neighbours told them that the couple’s two children studied in Bhopal, and that the couple used to fight frequently. “The neighbours heard the woman crying. The fight on Tuesday morning must have turned ugly,” said the police officer.
