There was high drama in the Delhi Assembly session on Friday, with the two BJP MLAs present storming out twice and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta jumping onto his desk to make his point.
The session, which was called to discuss the BJP-ruled municipal corporation’s work, started with Mr. Gupta accusing the Aam Aadmi Party government of colluding with the Congress over an alleged scam.
He said there had been a Rs. 400-crore scam in hiring water tankers in Sheila Dikshit’s government, which the AAP was not interested in investigating.
Alleging that he was not being allowed to raise the issue, Mr. Gupta stood up on his table, to the amusement of the AAP MLAs.
Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said: “It seems that the Leader of the Opposition doesn’t want a discussion on the municipal corporations. Standing on the table like that is shameful and it wastes the time of the House.”
Mr. Gupta and the other BJP MLA present, Jagdish Pradhan, then walked out of the House, only to return in a while.
They once again walked out before the discussion shifted to the alleged irregularities in the corporations.
Session extended
The Speaker ended up extending the session of the Assembly, which was supposed to last two days.
“Because the Leader of Opposition wasted so much time of the House on both days, there is a lot of work pending,” said Mr. Goel.
The House will reconvene on Monday.
