Soon after announcing the highest compensation for weather-afflicted farmers across the country, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said the Delhi Government was working on extending more benefits to them keeping in line with the Aam Aadmi Party’s model of participative governance.

While efforts were underway to add more dispensaries, schools and better connectivity to Delhi’s rural belt, Mr. Kejriwal said he had directed the officials of his Government to provide additional relief packages to farmers.

“Yesterday, when I was preparing to announce this compensation for you, I asked my officials why Delhi’s farmers didn’t get relief packages consisting of subsidised electricity and fertilizers like their brothers in other States,” Mr. Kejriwal told his audience at the Sahyog Sabha.

“I have directed them to work on providing more relief to the city’s farmers through these at the earliest and believe the Government will be able to make an announcement about a new initiative in line with this package soon,” he added.

The Chief Minister also declared his resolve to bring the same model of participative governance in rural Delhi which is being extended to its urban areas. “We will soon form committees chaired by the local MLA and with adequate representation from the Government and the village panchayat or gram sabha,” Mr. Kejriwal said.
