In a freak accident, a six-year-old boy was killed after being hit by flying glass pieces during the bursting of a cracker in a glass bottle. The incident was reported from Ranhola in West Delhi on Friday.
According to the police, the boy identified as Rajeev was passing by a spot where some people were bursting a cracker inside a glass bottle.
When the cracker burst, the bottle shattered and the glass pieces pierced the boy’s stomach.
He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
“Following the incident, we have registered a case under sections of negligence and have arrested Dalip, who was bursting crackers on the spot,” a police officer said.
Rajeev was a kindergarten student in a private school. He was on his way home from a nearby shop when the incident took place.
He was the only son of his parents. “Rajeev’s mother is inconsolable after the incident. She had sent her son to buy some groceries from a nearby shop. She had never expected that he will never come back,” said Balram, a relative.
The incident took place despite the Delhi Police’s numerous attempts to warn people about the hazards of bursting crackers in an unsafe way.
