HC declines stay on appointment of eight judges

April 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:35 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court last week declined to stay the appointment of eight additional judges in the Hyderabad High Court, stating that this was not the correct forum to decide on the issue. A plea was filed last week challenging the appointment of the eight additional judges for the States of Andhra Pradhesh and Telangana.

Justice Valmiki J Mehta, while asking the petitioner to move the High Court for both the States in Hyderabad, said, “The High Court of the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Hyderabad is the court of forum since it is the residence of the petitioner and the respondents (eight judges) whose appointments are challenged, and also because of the availability of the records within the territorial jurisdiction of the High Court of the States of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in Hyderabad.”
