: The Orissa High Court on Thursday allowed arrested Mayurbhanj MP Rama Chandra Hansda to attend the ongoing Parliament session for a day on Friday.

The suspended BJD MP is lodged in a Bhubaneswar jail after he was arrested by the CBI in November last year in connection with his dubious role in the chit fund scam.

A Division Bench of acting Chief Justice Pradeep K. Mohanty and Justice Biswajit Mohanty granted interim relief to the MP. They said he would be escorted to Parliament by the CBI and after attending the session for a day in order to retain his membership. The arrested MP had approached the High Court seeking interim relief to attend Parliament for at least a day in order to retain his membership in the Lower House of Parliament.

Parliamentary law stipulates that if a member fails to attend the sittings for at least once in 60 days, the membership would terminate.
