With the alleged unauthorised use of CNG stickers emerging as a chink in its armour during the trial phase of the odd-even scheme earlier this year, the Delhi government will focus on subjecting vehicles bearing these stickers to random checks this time the scheme comes into effect.
“There will be special emphasis on checking the unauthorised use of such stickers. Mobile enforcement teams of ex-servicemen will subject them to random checking across Delhi between April 15 and 30,” said Transport Minister Gopal Rai.
Toughening its stand on misuse of these stickers, Mr. Rai said the government will book violators under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Mr. Rai said the government had also brought the matter up with Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL), which assured him that it would look into a recent complaint of one of its employees selling a sticker for Rs. 1,000. “We have been assured that the matter will be looked into and that the sole pump allowed to issue such stickers, located near the JLN stadium, would be made to suspend the exercise if similar complaints come to notice,” Mr. Rai added.
