The Rohtak police have arrested a fourth person in connection with the alleged gang-rape of a Dalit student here earlier this month.
However, the accused is not among the five the victim had named in the FIR.
“We arrested Sandeep Kumar, who runs a sports goods shop near Sheela by-pass in Rohtak, on Saturday evening. He is not among the five named by the victim in the FIR. He told the police that he knew the victim and that she had called him on July 13 asking him to come to Mansarovar park, where he went with his friend Pramod. He introduced Pramod to her and the two (the girl and Pramod) went away in a car,” said Rohtak SP Rakesh Arya.
Mr. Arya said that a manhunt had been launched for Pramod and that “further sequence of events will be clear after he is arrested”.
Efforts are on to arrest the other two accused named in the FIR.
Three of the accused — Amit, Jagmohan and Sandeep — have already been arrested.
The three accused, along with Sandeep Kumar, were remanded to three days in police custody by a local court on Sunday.
The victim has also recorded her statement before the judicial magistrate.
The victim, who was allegedly gangraped by five young men in Bhiwani three years ago, alleged that she was abducted and raped again by the same persons in Rohtak on July 13 in order to pressurise her to withdraw the previous case.
The three accused, who have been arrested, have claimed that they were not present at the scene of crime and also furnished evidence in the form of CCTV footage, mobile phone locations and eyewitness accounts.
The victim’s cousin brother said: “It is a conspiracy. The crime was pre-meditated and the accused had procured evidence to claim innocence. The police said that Sandeep introduced Pramod to my sister and she went with him. How is it possible for a girl to go with a man whom she was just introduced to?The police should furnish evidence in terms of call records to show that my sister knew Sandeep. It is also possible that these two were involved with the five accused named by my sister”
