A five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 45-year-old peon of her school in Gandhi Nagar on Saturday afternoon. The accused has been arrested, said the police.

The girl, student of class I from a public school, reached home around 2:15p.m and her mother noticed blood stains on her dress. "When she reached home, the mother changed her dress and noticed blood spots. She asked her what happened. That's when the girl told her that 'an uncle' touched her inappropriately," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Nupur Prasad.

The girl was then taken to a nearby hospital by the parents where her medical examination was conducted and police were informed.

Ms. Prasad said that the girl narrated to the family and the police of the ordeal and also shared description of the culprit.

"Based on the description, the school's peon Vikas was apprehended and he was identified by the child," said Ms. Prasad.

The police said that Vikas was immediately arrested and case was registered under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (punishment for rape) and relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
