The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) on Friday summoned the Deputy Commissioner of the Excise Department for inaction over bootlegging in Narela.

The notice to the department came after a 30-year-old woman was allegedly beaten up on Thursday by local goons in broad daylight for assisting the women’s commission in raiding a house dealing in illegal liquor.

‘How many raids?’

The notice sent to the department sought details of the action taken by the authorities in curbing bootlegging. “The house, as well as many other houses in the area, has been selling illegal liquor for years. Please inform what action has been initiated by the excise department to curb this menace,” the letter read.

The DCW also sought information on the number of raids carried out by the department in Narela.

“Please provide information on the steps taken by the department to prevent smuggling of illicit liquor from neighbouring States to Delhi. Further, please provide the details of action proposed against the smugglers,” read the letter.

The DCW also sought details on the total amount of liquor seized by the department from Narela. The Deputy Commissioner has been asked to appear before the DCW on December 12.
