DUTA members join admission process wearing black bands

July 08, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Delhi University teachers on Wednesday rejoined the admission process for undergraduate courses.

However, they will continue to boycott the evaluation process for first and second-year students.

Meanwhile, the Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) has appealed to the university administration to separate the papers of the pre-FYUP (2012-2015) batch, so that they can be evaluated and the results come out on time.

Interactive sessions

“In the light of the overwhelming opinion expressed by a vast majority of staff associations regarding the boycott of admissions, the DUTA executive decided to carry out more participative action programmes in place of the admission boycott,” a statement from DUTA read.

The association is now planning to launch more interactive sessions with students and their parents in order to make them understand the situation.

They also plan to join the admission process wearing black bands as a mark of protest.

“On all the days of admissions, the staff associations will interact with parents and students to drive home the point that consistent attacks on public-funded educational institutions will soon destroy the few surviving universities like Delhi University.

Leaflets to be distributed

Teachers will participate in the admission work wearing black bands in protest and the staff associations will distribute leaflets and collect signatures from parents and students,” it added.

“Meri Aawaz Suno”

The association has also planned an action programme titled “Meri Aawaz Suno” outside the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, in which the teachers will narrate their experiences of lack of promotions, lack of permanent appointments and violation of the reservation roster.

Drawing DU’s attention

“The action programme is meant to draw the attention of the university administration and the government to the hardships of the thousands of teachers awaiting appointments and promotions in the university,” said a member of the DUTA.

The DUTA general body meeting on Friday will also be followed by a march to the Vice-Chancellor’s Office.

However, they will continue to boycott the evaluation process for first and second-year students
