Passenger operations on the stretch between Bahadurgarh and Mundka, on the Green Line, will begin from Sunday, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Saturday.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the corridor on Sunday, from North Avenue in Delhi through videoconferencing, in the presence of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, and Haryana Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister O. P. Dhankar.

The approximately 11-km stretch, which is an extension of the Inderlok/Kirti Nagar-Mundka corridor will be the Delhi Metro’s third connectivity to Haryana.

Passenger operations on the line will start from 4 p.m. Commuters on this corridor can travel between the two lines in approximately 50 minutes.

“The satellite city of Bahadurgarh in Haryana is all set to get metro connectivity with the completion of work of this section. The entirely elevated section will not only connect the Capital city with Bahadurgarh but will also provide connectivity to many outer Delhi areas of the western fringes of the city such as Mundka, Tikri Kalan and Ghevra,” said Anuj Dayal, Executive Director, Corporate Communications of DMRC.

This corridor is a part of the DMRC’s phase III project and once this stretch is operational, the network will expand to 288 km with 208 metro stations.

With the opening of this corridor, which has seven stations, Haryana will now have over 25 km of the Delhi Metro network.

“This section will be Delhi Metro’s third extension to Haryana after Gurugram and Faridabad. Haryana already has over 21 km of Delhi Metro lines. With this section, it will expand to 25.8 km,” said Mr. Dayal.

Once this section is operational, the entire corridor between Inderlok/Kirti Nagar to City Park in Bahadurgarh will expand to 29.64 km.

20 trains available

The DMRC, further, added that for the entire corridor, on the Green Line, 20 trains will be made available with an interval of eight minutes.

“People working in the Industrial Estate, Bahadurgarh will be benefited with the Modern Industrial Estate (MIE) metro station. Besides, Bahadurgarh has also developed into an educational hub and houses many universities and colleges. Many students travel to these institutes from Delhi everyday. This connection will be of great help to them also,” said Mr. Dayal.
