A large number of people, including women, staged a demonstration outside the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Race Course Road here on Wednesday supporting Anna Hazare's demand for a strong Lokpal Bill.

Carrying the Tricolour and placards, the demonstrators gathered outside 7 Race Course in the afternoon just before the all-party meeting on the issue of Jan Lokpal Bill at 3-30 p.m. and raised slogans against the Government. A few of them were wearing Gandhi caps with “I am Anna” inscribed on them.

The police rounded them up and took over 140 people, including women, in a bus to a nearby police station. They were detained and released around 7 p.m.

The demonstrators were demanding immediate passing of the Jan Lokpal Bill proposed by Anna Hazare.

The police also detained 37 people from near the Gymkhana post office around 3 p.m. for demonstrating in support of Jan Lokpal Bill.

The demonstrators were detained and released two hours later.
