Crane crushes worker

A 24-year-old man was crushed to death by a crane that was being used to carry heavy metal pipes on Tilak Marg here on Tuesday.

The victim was assisting the crane driver when he was accidentally run over, said the police. The crane driver was caught by people at the spot and handed over to the police.

Identified as Vipin Kumar, the deceased was a native of Bihar. He lived with co-workers in a slum in East Delhi.

On Tuesday, he and a colleague were working at a site where CNG pipelines were being laid. They had been employed by a contractor of a private company, which has been tasked with the laying of pipelines.

Vipin was walking on the left side of the crane when he accidentally tripped on a rope lying nearby.

Before he could recover, the crane had run him over.

The victim was then pulled out and rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead.
