A Delhi Police constable has been suspended and booked for culpable homicide aafter he and three others allegedly thrashed an ice cream vendor for asking them to pay for what they had bought.
Forty two-year-old Sandeep Kesari, the victim, told the police that the incident took place at 12.10 a.m. on Wednesday when he was heading towards his residence in Naharpur from Sector 7 in Rohini.
Hurled abused
Constable Joginder allegedly stopped him and asked for ice cream.
But when the hawker asked for money, the accused cop allegedly refused to pay and began hurling abuses at him.
According to a police officer, the constable proceeded to cane the hawker, who tried to run away. The policeman also called his friends Kamal Kapoor, Rohit Sharma and Kamaldeep who arrived and allegedly thrashed Sandeep.
“Locals rushed to help me after they heard me scream. They called a PCR for help. The attackers, including the constable, were held by the locals,” said the victim.
Case registered
It was on the basis of his complaint that an FIR was registered against the constable and his friends at the Rohini (north) police station. Incidentally, this is the same police station where the constable was posted.
“We have arrested the other three under section 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) of the IPC. The constable, who is absconding since the incident, has been suspended,” said a senior police officer.
