July 24, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 07:54 am IST - BHUBANESWAR:

A five-member AICC team on Saturday visited Gumudumaha village in Kandhamal district where five innocent people were killed by security personnel belonging to the Special Operation Group of Odisha police during anti-Maoist operation a fortnight ago.

The team comprising senior Congress leaders Kishore Chandra Deo, Jairam Ramesh, K. H. Muniyappa, Vincent Pala and Arun Oraon met family members and relatives of the victims at Gumudumaha to ascertain the circumstances that led to the killings. This is the third time that Congress leaders have visited the area after the incident that took place on July 8.

Talking to presspersons before leaving for Kandhamal, Mr. Ramesh said that their party will raise the issue in Parliament.

The incident that took place at Gumudumaha was not the first such incident in which tribals and Dalits have been killed during anti-Maoist operations in Odisha. This was the fourth such incident in a year in the State, he added.
