It is celebration time at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and festivity is in the air for the next round of Spring Fest 2013. The fest celebrates the ‘true spirit of youth’ and encompasses aspirations and enthusiasm of college students across the nation.

With a plethora of more than 60 events ranging from varied genres, this annual fest provides a platform to students where they can prove their mettle and calibre. Primarily a cultural extravaganza, the festival is slated between January 23 and 26 next year.

Its major attraction would be its nationwide rock band competition ‘Wildfire’, which is to be conducted in five major cities, namely Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Guwahati. The competition comes with handsome prize money. Over the years, ‘Wildfire’ has grown to become the biggest rock band competition in the country at the college level. With past editions of the event having witnessed the likes of top bands of the Indian rock scene, the stage is set for the new avatar of the magic right at the epicentre of rock at IIT Kharagpur.

With street play culture ever on the rise among the youth, Nukkad, the street play competition will be conducted nationwide. The event will have the preliminary rounds conducted in Delhi, Mumbai and Chandigarh in the month of December, with the finals to be held in Kharagpur during the festival.

Another highlight is the IIT Kharagpur Model United Nations Conference in association with the Debating Society of IIT Kharagpur. It is organised in collaboration with UNIC (India and Bhutan). It will be a three-day conference and will be held from 24th to 26th January.

Apart from the innovative councils, a dynamic International Press, exciting crisis simulations and the Delegate Night that is a confluence of three formidable brands — Model United Nations, IIT Kharagpur and Spring Fest are other much-awaited events.
