BookChor, an e-commerce website which vows to fulfil all literary needs of the people, organised a book sale for bibliophiles in the city in an event named ‘Lock The Box’.

The three-day event, which began on April 20, ended on Sunday at King’s Park Street in Tagore Garden Extension.

90,000 books

The event provided people with three boxes of different sizes at respective prices and asked them to collect as many books as they could fit inside the box.

There were over 90,000 books on display across genres.

Unlike other book fairs, ‘Lock The Box’ let buyers make a one-time payment for their boxes. The three types of boxes were named ‘Odysseus’, ‘Perseus’ and ‘Hercules’. Being the smallest in size, Odysseus was priced at ₹999 and allowed a buyer to fit in at least 8-10 books.

While Perseus, being slightly more accommodative, was priced at ₹1,499 and could easily fit 15 books. Hercules, the biggest, could accommodate up to 30 books and was the ultimate treat for book lovers.

Alok Sharma, sales head of BookChor, said, “We have always believed that one should not judge a book by its price. No matter how expensive or affordable a book is, we always have something to learn from it.”

Mr. Sharma added, “High prices often restrict book lovers from buying all that they wish to and they end up buying one or three out of 10-15 they like. We organised this event to help buyers collect books without bothering about prices and mainly to teach them not to discriminate between books.”

The event was held in Pune and Bengaluru on March 30 and April 6 respectively. The organisers claim to have had an attendance of over 25, 000 people in both the cities.

“I got to know about the event through Facebook. I attended such an event for the first time and was totally amazed by the concept. I found all my favourite novels here,” said Jatin, an MBA student.

“I am an avid reader of Sidney Sheldon and Charles Dickens. I was happy to fill my whole box with their books,” said Shreya, a BSc student.
