Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Vijay Goel on Thursday said that questions raised by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) about “wasteful expenditure on the odd-even scheme” had first been raised by the party.
“It is a known fact that it was done simply to put out self-advertisements,” the BJP leader said.
“The government must come out clean on how much money has been spent on the odd-even scheme , and under which law were people challaned Rs. 2,000 before refunding this amount to those who were fined,” he added.
Terming the road-rationing scheme ‘a fraud’, Mr. Goel said that all the reports related to it showed it to be a failure.
He added that the Kejriwal government was the biggest reason for its failure since it had announced the policy “without any consideration” and “simply” for self-publicity and propaganda.
“I appeal to the people of Delhi that they should not purchase a second car or a second-hand scooter out of fear of the implementation of odd-even scheme for the third time because neither can the Kejriwal government manage its implementation, nor does it have the courage to enforce it again,” Mr. Goel said.
“The NGT has put a straight question before the Aam Adami Party government and the pollution control board, demanding to know the extent to which pollution came down with regard to levels before the enforcement of the scheme. The committee that was set up by the Delhi government itself has exposed the Kejriwal dispensation,” he added.
Mr. Goel stressed that the special committee constituted by the Delhi government in this regard had clearly stated that the scheme had proved to be a failure because of schools being open and no vacations to offer a breather.
Mr. Goel contended that the fact that as many as 3.88 lakh additional cars came on the road, while the number of two-wheelers increased by 1.34 lakh, proved the scheme was announced in a hurry.
