The winter chill apparently claimed its first victim in the capital today with an unidentified man being found dead near a Metro pillar in west Delhi.

The man, who is in his thirties, was found dead on Sunday morning in Tilak Nagar, a senior police official said.

The death is suspected to have been caused by cold conditions. The official said they were awaiting the post mortem report.

The capital has experienced biting cold during the past few days with mercury remaining below normal level.

Saturday was one of the coldest days of this season with the maximum dropping five notches below normal to touch 19 degrees Celsius. Early this morning, the mercury had dropped to seven degree Celsius.
