Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Captain Amarinder Singh on Sunday said Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal was “suffering from severe symptoms of selective dementia”.

“The reason rampant lawlessness and anarchy does not concern him is that he seems to be blissfully unaware of whatever is happening around and still believes that Punjab is peaceful and prosperous,” Captain Singh said.

“That is the reason he [Mr. Badal] is not able to remember the recent killing of a policeman in broad daylight, attack on a religious preacher by over two dozen people, killing of Namdhari Mata and shooting dead of a security guard of a bank in Moga,” he added.

The PCC chief said the Chief Minister will still “try to make us believe that Punjab is a completely peaceful State”.

Referring to Mr. Badal’s claim that Punjabis are prosperous and there are no drug addicts in the State, Captain Singh said: “Again, this is the symptom of senility and dementia. [Mr.] Badal does rightly remember that Punjab was prosperous, but forgets that it is not any more.”

He added that almost every day there are reports of farmers committing suicide, gangsters killing each other and at times even policemen and youth dying of drug overdose and addiction, which has only gone up.

“And [Mr.] Badal has the audacity to describe all these happenings as petty incidents. What is he waiting for before he feels like taking some action?” he said.

Meanwhile, over 1,200 youths from 22 districts of Punjab met Captain Singh here and pledged to support him and his vision for the State.

At an event organised by poll strategist Prashant Kishor’s team I-PAC (Indian Political Action Committee), these youngsters, popularly known as college and city captains of their district, discussed how they could participate and contribute to the PCC chief’s campaign for the 2017 Punjab Assembly polls. — PTI
