A large cache of arms and ammunition was seized from the house of a woman sarpanch and her husband was arrested in a village in Naugachhia district, police said on Saturday.

The police seized 11 country-made pistols, a musket of 12 bore, two magazines, 311 cartridges of rifles besides equipment to manufacture arms from the house during a raid late on Saturday night.

Naugachhia SP Pankaj Sinha said the police raided the house in Badi Makandpur village under Gopalpur police station following disclosure made by an arrested accused in a loot case that he purchased arms from Suman Kumar Choudhary, husband of the sarpanch.

Suman Kumar Choudhary alias Buchkun Choudhary is also a former sarpanch.
