Anti-Anna rally jams traffic

August 25, 2011 02:51 pm | Updated August 11, 2016 03:18 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

All roads leading to India Gate saw heavy congestion during the evening peak hours on Wednesday because of All-India Confederation of SC/ST Organisations' “Save Constitution” rally against the methods adopted by activist Anna Hazare to protest against corruption.

The protestors blocked traffic on Kasturba Gandhi Marg near India Gate for around half-an-hour beginning around 5-45 p.m., causing traffic congestion on all roads leading up to the C-Hexagon.

Traffic on one carriageway was affected on the route taken by the rally that moved from India Gate towards Jantar Mantar through K. G. Marg and Tolstoy Marg.

It took around an hour for traffic to stabilise around India Gate. Horns blared as angry commuters tried to find a way out of the traffic that had come to a standstill because of the rally.

A traffic policeman deployed at India Gate said the organisers had not informed the authorities that they would block traffic anywhere. The Delhi Traffic Police sent out a message through its SMS service and posted a message on its Facebook page advising commuters to avoid the route taken by the protestors.
