Fans of Sherlock Holmes will now get an opportunity to watch Delhi’s theatre and media personality Sunit Tandon performing the role of the famous detective at Akshara Theatre on Baba Kharag Singh Marg here this Saturday and Sunday.

Akshara Theatre’s Gopal Sharman, the country’s grand old man of theatre, who seeks to revive English theatre in the city, is directing The Adventure of the Priory School. The playwright has also chipped in as a costume designer .

According to Akshara Theatre’s proprietor Jalabala Vaidya, the play will have an interesting book-reading session and will be presented in a dramatised way. “Sunit Tandon, who played Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s fictional character recently at Akshara, will again don the role of Sherlock Holmes.”

Mr. Tandon, known for his polished English accent as a news reader , will be putting his crisp voice to good use as he will present the “dramatised reading”.

“My association with Jalabala Vaidya goes a long way. We have performed five dramatised readings. As actors, we read our dialogues from the script but occasionally we make suggestions. There is a little bit of movement. We make efficacious use of light, stage and costumes.”

In this play, the surprise will be none other than Jalabala Vaidya, who despite her age has not lost the zest for theatre. She will be playing a female Dr. Watson and impersonating a villainous innkeeper in a broad accented voice to match.

Vikalp Mudgal, another mainstay of Akshara Theatre, will play the role of the Duke of Holdernesse.
