More than a dozen incidents of women’s braids being chopped off mysteriously have been reported across Nuh here over the past week. A similar incident has also been reported from Gurugram.

Most women claimed to have lost consciousness after seeing strange-looking young men, shadows and “cat-like” creatures. They said they found their hair cut on waking up.

An FIR was registered at Ferozepur Jhirka police station under Section 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC on Sunday evening in connection with one such incident.

The FIR was registered following a complaint by a Sakras village resident, who said his daughter-in-law was inside the house when her hair was mysteriously cut.

“When Anjum shouted for help, the family rushed inside and found her lying unconscious. Her hair had been cut. She was taken to a hospital and a complaint was lodged with us,” said Inspector Kuldeep Singh, Station House Officer, Ferozepur Jhirka, adding that the involvement of a gang had been ruled out.

‘Very strange’

“It seems very strange. The matter is being investigated,” said Mr. Singh, adding that similar incidents had been reported earlier, but no formal complaints were received.

In Gurugram, a daily diary entry was made at Sector 5 police station on Saturday. “A 50-year-old woman claimed that she was cooking on Friday evening when she spotted a strange-looking man at the entrance, who suddenly disappeared. She then lost consciousness. When she woke up, she found herself on the floor with her hair cut,” said Ravinder, Public Relations Officer, Gurugram.

The woman’s husband then called the police and took her to a hospital.

The couple came to the police station on Saturday and lodged a complaint, said Mr. Ravinder.

Bizarre happenings

Though there were unconfirmed reports of similar incidents from Sohna as well, most of these incident have been reported from villages in Punhana, Ferozepur Jhirka, Tauru and Nuh in Nuh district. The bizarre happenings have triggered panic among the villagers.

Wasim Khan, a resident of Ferozepur Jhirka, claimed his mother Rasidan was attacked twice on July 27 and 29.

‘Scratches on the nape’

“She was alone in a room when a young man held her by the nape of her neck and cut her hair. In the first instance, only some locks were cut. The second time, her entire braid was cut. She also had scratches on the nape,” he claimed.
