A police team arrested a wanted criminal at Nehru Place after a shootout in the early hours of Monday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Romil Baaniya said Akbar alias Danish, who was carrying a reward of ₹25,000, and his accomplice Asif, opened fire at a police party around 2:30 a.m and the policemen fired in retaliation.
Akbar is wanted in connection with several cases of robbery, snatching and an attempt to murder case. Asif, who was also involved in the shoot-out, managed to flee.

“Secret information was received that the two men would pass from near Eros Hotel, Nehru Place from Moolchand and would go to Govindpuri to meet some of their associates between 2 and 2.30 a.m,” said Mr. Baaniya.
He added that around 2:50 a.m., two persons on a Bullet motorcycle were seen but when the picket staff tried to stop them, they turned towards Nehru Place.
“The police teams started following them. They were intercepted on the T-point turn towards BSES office in Nehru Place. The accused then opened fire on the police teams. Two of the bullets fired by them hit the bulletproof jackets of two policemen,” Mr. Baaniya added. After a brief exchange of fire, Danish (22) was overpowered, said the police.
