President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday inaugurated a solar power plant at the President’s Estate that is expected to power 650 homes for a period of 25 years.
The plant, with a capacity of 668 kilowatt peak (KWp), has been set up by Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd. (TPDDL) and Rural Electrification Corporation.
It is expected to generate 0.95 million units annually and reduce the carbon footprint by 316 metric tonne, as per a statement by TPDDL.
Seven plants
Under phase one of the project, seven plants have been installed at Rajendra Prasad Sarvodaya Vidyalaya, the market, the museum, MT Garage, the sewage treatment plant, the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre and the President’s Motor Garage.
In phase two of the project, another 500 KWp plant would be installed at the estate.
Speaking at the inauguration, Praveer Sinha, CEO and managing director of TPDDL, said: “I believe, only clean and green energy is a guarantee for sustainable development and we all must opt for renewable sources of power to light up our lives”.
