Rahul Wadhwa, Jatin Oberoi and Bhuvan Sakhuja are accused in 17 cases of robberies over the past two months.

Three Ola drivers were arrested from Adarsh Nagar on Tuesday for allegedly robbing several other Ola drivers.

Rahul Wadhwa (25), Jatin Oberoi (32), and Bhuvan Sakhuja (24) are accused in 17 cases of robberies over the past two months, the police said.

Random phone numbers

The police received several calls, especially over the past 15 days, from Ola drivers who claimed their money and valuables had been robbed. Following a distress call on Monday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Hukma Ram constituted a team comprising Station House Officer Anil Malik and four other officers.

“The complainant was asked for a description of the robber. The sketch was shown to shopkeepers in the area and one of them identified Rahul,” said a police officer.

He was apprehended and Jatin and Bhuvan were arrested later. The trio told the police that they would book cabs using mobile numbers of random rickshaw pullers and e-rickshaw drivers.

“They had an app on their phone but would use the mobile number of rickshaw drivers. They would book a cab, take the ride, rob the drivers — by threatening or cheating them — and delete the app,” he said.

The accused had a list of 17 drivers they had robbed to ensure they did not book the same cab again, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (north-west) Milind Mahadeo Dumbere.

“Rahul was robbed in the same manner a year ago. He decided to rob others the same way thinking he would never get caught,” said Mr. Dumbere.
